Hi all-

So we finally did it and announced this site/list.  Who's out there?

I'm a librarian at the Yale Medical Library, and I spend most of my time
writing code for new or newly integrated systems here.  Among the good
reasons to be involved in this kind of activity are some very selfish
ones... namely that some of the projects I'm involved in here could be a
lot better if I weren't the only one working on them.  Basically I'm an
effective programmer, but not a good one... I jump at any chance I get to
have someone else look over my code or evaluate design, and other folks
always find good ways to make things better. 

Also I'm on a term appointment, so for the projects I'm trying to
complete, there's the "what do we do when you're gone?" factor.  I suspect
some of you might know of what I speak (you out there, pvc? :)  If these
apps are in the public domain with other folks working on them, nothing
has to die if I end up leaving this place.  And, it seems, there are other
folks interested in using what I'm working on at other institutions, if
not already building their own.  Not to mention that I want to see what
you all are doing too.

Amongst the things I'm involved with in some way are EDD and DubMed, both
of which are listed at oss4lib already.  We've also got a metadata project
and a palmpilot project gathering steam at various rates of acceleration
here, so hopefully we'll have more things to put up in the coming months.
