[oss4lib] update
Hi all. Hope you're enjoying the summer... save for the complete lack of
rainfall it's really been a great one here on the U.S. east coast.
The news:
o gnujake keeps moving along well. There's a _lot_ of data in there now,
and we're some useful (finally) functionality and a newer, lucid (finally)
home page together. Look for an announcement x-posted to the big lists in
the next week or so...
o Who's doing e-reserves? I haven't had too close a look at the code for
OSCR or FreeReserves yet; how do they compare? Have the two camps
cross-pollinated at all?
o Is anyone working on homegrown ILL systems (in addition to Prospero, of
course)? We just picked up the ISO ILL protocols and are considering
building some level of ISO support into a system we've had on the drawing
board for a few months.
o I've started a short outline for a new piece called "The Librarian's
Guide to Free Software," intended to lay out the land of applications and
tools for all of us in a friendly manner. Drop me a line if you're
interested in taking up a part of it... I can post it on the site, and we
can divvy up the sections according to interest. We can also use the
project to learn textinfo...
o Look for a significantly gussied up version of the oss4lib manifesto
coming soon to a Library Journal near you. We might see a slight uptick
in traffic here (and on the OSDLS and Prospero sites :).
