Re: more on gnutella

Er, well, rather an instantaneous mideval monastery. :) There is a _ton_
of real content floating around on it, disordered yet useful.

Since gnutella requests and responses use HTTP, it seems likely that
somebody will soon build gnut support into mozilla (or a gnutella client
based on mozilla or some variation thereof). It also seems likely that
the gnutellaNG working groups will figure out how to build at least
boolean query logic into the packet stream (e.g. "author=darwin and
mime-type=txt"). And somebody will realize that simple xml or rdf schema
file descriptions can be presented within an upload directory to answer
such queries.

Another thread to watch is the idea of proxied gnutella nets, with one
representative napster-like gnutella proxying requests in both directions
on behalf of a private user pool. Such an architecture is briefly
described at the end of this useful gnutella protocol faq:

This kind of setup would be exactly what we need to keep our local users'
identities and actions private and assign copyright clearance fees to
specific users as necessary within a docster-like library service
federated across (and within) institutions.
